Grand Challenges in Medical Image Analysis
Welcome to the web site for grand challenges in medical image analysis. Every year, thousands of papers are published that describe new algorithms to be applied to medical images. But very few provide a fair and direct comparison of the newly proposed algorithm with the state of the art. We believe that such comparisons can help to substantially improve the performance of medical image analysis algorithms. We support the organization of these events and the dissemination of their results.
Why Challenges? describes the rationale for organizing these events, provides advice for those who want to organize challenges and discusses where we may move to next.
We provide an overview of All Challenges, previous, ongoing and upcoming, on this site.
Grand challenges in medical image analysis would not be possible without the support and enthusiasm from all contributors.
In 2012, MICCAI will host 8 challenges as part of its workshop program. In 2011, several contests were held and in 2010 there was a special Grand Challenge workshop. Challenges have been part of MICCAI since 2007.
ISBI included challenges for the first time in 2012 and will continue scientific challenges in 2013.
A platform which eases the creation of challenge websites and and greatly extends the possibilities of sharing and visualising data, algorithms and evaluation is being developed here https://github.com/comic/comic-django. The content of Grand-challenge.org will be merged into this new framework in the coming year.
